Our Commitment to Your Family
Health & Safety
In accordance with the Public Health Department, parents are required to complete an Immunization Form for their child, prior to admission. For the health and safety of all families and staff, children will not be able to attend the daycare unless their immunizations are up-to-date. Parents will be reminded, in writing, if there are outstanding immunizations. The daycare reserves the right to exclude a child from participating in the program until the immunizations have been given. The appropriate Public Health form, available at the centre, must accompany exceptions for religious or medical reasons.
Our Health/General Information Form has questions relating to allergies and your child’s medical history. Allergy charts are posted in the kitchen and playroom.
Our staff work hard to create a safe but stimulating environment, but occasionally accidents do happen. Minor accidents are recorded and staff will fully communicate the circumstances of the incident either by phone, or at pick-up time. A Minor Incident Record will be completed for you to read and sign. It will be kept in your child’s file.
In the case of a more serious accident, the centre will notify parents immediately and transport the child to the nearest hospital receiving emergencies. Our staff keeps up-to date emergency numbers and a cellular telephone with them at all times. For this reason, please be sure that the daycare has on file:
1. Up-to-date home/work/school telephone numbers
2. The names and telephone numbers of two other adults who can
be reached in an emergency
3. A signed emergency Transportation and Treatment card.
Nutrition
A nutritious lunch, as well as morning and afternoon snacks, are provided. The meals are served “family-style” in small groups. Alternative menu items can be arranged for children with allergies or dietary restrictions. Our weekly menus are posted on the Parent Information Board. Copies of the four weekly menus are available by request.
Please note: We are an allergy-aware daycare. We do not allow ANY outside food or drinks to be brought into the centre.
Behaviour Management
A child’s behaviour is managed in a positive and age-appropriate manner. If a child is having a difficult time managing his or her feelings, or is behaving in an inappropriate manner towards other children or staff, the teacher will re-direct the child to another activity or accompany the child to a quiet area away from the group where they will discuss the situation. The teacher will encourage the child to talk about the situation and the best way to solve the problem. Our staff believes in positive reinforcement, patience and constructive communication when dealing with a difficult situation. If a teacher has any concerns regarding your child’s behaviour, he or she will discuss it with you. No form of corporal punishment is ever allowed.
Progress Reports
At any time during the year, you may ask one of your child’s teachers to discuss your child’s progress in more length than the daily schedule allows. Our teachers are constantly monitoring your child’s well-being and development and would welcome the opportunity to discuss this either in person, or by telephone at a mutually convenient time.
Special Activities
Throughout the year, the staff plans special trips and activities. A consent form is required for each field trip (which may include travel on T.T.C. or school bus) and must be signed and submitted beforehand.
Communication
A current e-mail address is all you need to keep up-to-date with all the events, trips and information.
